that would be summer...as we are on the cusp of august, school supplies are everywhere and fall clothing appears. maryland ignores the calendar and it's still summer until late october, if then.
as for all things needle, finishing up my christmas items and formulating list of autumnal projects to tackle. the melons wall quilt is nearly ready to bind....
and they keep calling my name....had exactly 9 stripey ones and so a lovely kaffe stripe became the background for a small piece, just right for a side table topper...
while shopping the stash, noticed this lovely full yard of fabric...it was an internet purchase reject, not exactly what was needed at the time, but it's starring role has arrived! found some coordinating solids and a fall runner is in the works...
so there is joy in the making AND joy in the using....with enough for the binding too!
just about 40 years ago, daughter and i visited disneyworld...she was 12 going on 40....wanna ride the teacups? i asked....no, said she, that's for little kids...but after coaxing she relented with disdain...then i found this photo on instagram....
3 european princesses, white gloves and all, smiling contentedly on the teacups, so i sent it to my daughter...she laughed recalling our visit! as an overworked, overburdened single parent, our lives were overloaded with stress, so now thankful she recalls that sometimes we had fun too...
fast forward today....i need some fun as well...sure, enjoy my sewing projects but entertaining diversions are good too. it seems everyone in blogland is traveling here and there creating posts that leave me dreamy and wistful. budget and transportation woes keep me under house arrest, hoping some magician with a wand will appear....until then, will just keep calm and sew on! hope you have a fun day...

Your melons are so pretty and they remind me of how much I enjoyed doing them awhile ago. They are a good stash buster.
ReplyDeleteEven though you are wistful for a trip somewhere and we did just arrive back home after a trip to Virginia, I AM a homebody and love being home and that's easy for me to say, isn't it?
well i think a healthy mix is good too...if i'm stuck at home too long i slip into hermit mode...pjs, don't answer phone, eat peanut butter out of jar etc...lax with showers that sort...LOL
DeleteWhat a fortuitous find in your stash.....The teacups! We went to Disneyland in 1958, part of a visit to my dad's parents. I remember my mother saying, "This is how a teabag feels in hot water," the kind of dumb mom-joke for a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old. When ALA was in Anaheim (gee, 2009??) I revisited [an all-conference bash] and rode the teacups again!
ReplyDeleteWell, just so you know. . . you aren't the only "stay at home all summer" stitcher. I have been content to sit in my rocking loveseat most days working on a cross stitch sampler. I did cross stitch in the 80's and 90's It's been only quilting since then so it was fun to pick it up again for a while. Ii've been working on it for 2 months and I'm almost 1/2 way so it's as time consuming as a queen bed quilt. I wish you could go on the vacation you missed out on last year.
ReplyDeletethanks robin for commiserating! we are so blessed to have pastimes that we enjoy...yes indeed i would love 2 weeks in maine, see my family, get hugged to death, eat lobster...
DeleteLovely to see what you are working on. If you are heading for Autumn, then we must be heading for Spring.
ReplyDeleterighto!! thanks...i'm definitely in the groove
