flower friday

after ogling beautiful flowers on a gazillion blogs this spring/summer, just had to post another of mine from long ago....

the short concrete walkway into my house from driveway begged for some color...planted these tulips and they didn't disappoint...

the binding is ready to go on baskets I so popped another UFO into the hoop and it just might get done before july arrives....

with june winding down, almost time for christmas in july....daughter and i are going to make another try at a craft table so pulled some ideas to use up more christmas stash...

and maybe some strip-pieced placemats as well...long ago i made large bells and tied little jingle bells to them for door hangers...have to see if that pattern is still on hand...from a 1980s woman's day mag back i think....

with house chores caught up and exercise done for the day, it's sewing time!  have one for yourself why don't you???

voice from above???

nope...romania!  LOL....seriously, sat down at the machine today and bonnie hunter's voice echoed in my brain...."almost anything works for strip piecing" is what i heard....and so i did.

made this for flag day and upcoming july 4th too....the little star has block has been hanging around for some time (think years) and aha moment led to this project.

of course it took more time than i thought it would, but it's done and happy with the result.  my cuffs are usually 3" long finished and this one is a bit more because the block was 4" finished....my door naked no more...

and these blocks got finished this weekend as well....

if i hadn't made the stocking, a flimsy photo would be here instead....might put them up on ebay as is...

more quilting on the baskets got done along with clearing off the sewing table that unearthed this project in the works...hesitated going forward as not totally happy with the background fabric...so pulled everything that was enough yardage to audition....these are the final 2...

kaffe 1:  some pieces cut, would drop the 2 lights and go with 36 squares (6 of each, 6" finished)...
kaffe 2:  keep all 8 prints, 48 blocks (6 of each again, size 36x48)....
the colors are much richer in person...but the 2 lights still a washout in kaffe1...i've only 1 block made but think have decided to go with kaffe1, drop the 2 lightest and use the kaffe2 to make a smaller piece, 12 blocks, 4x3.  dilemma solved!  do you wake up with quilty thoughts?  i sometimes problem solve before getting up for the day...the benefit of lots of free time...

hot weekend included the movies with dear daughter to see "disclosure day"....a good movie although i need to see it again as it seemed a bit disjointed at the beginning.  spielberg doesn't disappoint, but i think he wrote this during covid when he could let his mind wander aimlessly...LOL!  wrapped up with a bit of tidying, bit of cooking and more quilting...all in all a pleasant two days...hope you are counting your blessings too!

(PS...new header photo Damariscotta, Maine...one of the many pretty villages along the coast)
