this and that

august rolls on....trying to keep busy...finding places to tidy and things to use up or pass on...all while air conditioner drones on....dreaming of 60-degree nights with a cool breeze wafting thru the window and a quilt up around my ears....not anytime soon unfortunately and no beach vacation ahead this year sadly.  here is one problem area that i've sorted...

the scraps and some UFOs get stored here for easy (not) access.  doesn't take much for it to become chaos.

another summer to do done....this little stitchery pattern was a gift and since my birthday is in august i knew it HAD to be finished now.  pattern by country cottage needleworks from 2011....

today's dargate report:  28 more to applique, 25 days left in august....veering off into hate for this project...LOL!

and the downside of tidying those drawers and crannies.....

blocks from an abandoned sew along....there were pieced blocks as well--those are done--but alas these got waylaid... my bathroom walls are pale yellow so a wall quilt is in the works!  can these get done in august as well? gonna try....

another day heat index over 100 but thanks to debby there will be a much desired break...can't wait til she gets here....rainy the rest of the week but i'll take it...

  1. We're cooler today in NC w/ rain; just what we need. Yes, I hear you, the more one tidies the more one discovers... an d SEW it goes! I do love that pretty cross-stitch.

  2. Absolutely love the pillow. It is PERFECT for you! And the abandoned applique will be gorgeous in a yellow bathroom. Maybe it will be a respite from the dargate baskets. When you put the last stitch into the basket project, you will feel like a new woman. I'm so eager to see it in the flimsy stage. You to beautiful work, Grace!!

  3. What a sweet little cushion. A perfect finish for the month. The appliqué blocks will be beautiful. Good luck with your continued tidying. You can pop over here when you’re done and start on my mess.

  4. Thanks for commenting on my blog! I love to clean and organize so I can admire your work--it's a misery in the middle but I get excited at the beginning and the end of the messy job! lol The pillow is very pretty!

  6. Lovely little cross stitch and I understand what you mean about scraps and stash - common quilters problem, but what would we do without them........hang on in there, winter's coming...much love to you Grace, I've enjoyed reading of the good times (and the not so good) for years, just never commented before, but kept you in my prayers during the bad times. Hope you have a good time with your friend, and some cooler weather hopefully.....Elaine in UK

  8. The pile of bins under a table is a very familiar site in my sewing area. :)
A very nice cross-stitched pillow. Can't discern the size--is it a small bowl filler, a larger sofa pillow, or somewhere in between.
Really pretty blue and cream blocks you uncovered (discovered), but since the are applique, I would only want them in my sewing room if someone else had already done the applique. LOL
I hope Debby only brings you cooling rain!!

  10. It definitely has been hot, but it cooled off here a little this week and has been nice.
It looks to me that you have a healthy list for August. I like your honestly about a "hate" project. You will love it when you are done. A wall quilt in blue will look great in a yellow bathroom!
