switching gears

i've been spending most of my sewing time with scraps, lagging in UFO finishes.  pulled out this small piece to quilt and then get back to s'mores.  it's advent sky and plan is to gift when done.

when sorting thru the 2" strip shoebox found that more than half weren't long enough for my blocks...say what???  so clearing out won't happen unless i use them to make a whole lotta foursies.

i did cut up the usable strips into block sets ready to sew...pitiful amount but scrap basket at the ready to raid for more.

and if you forgot, here is what the finished blocks look like.  finish at 6" so will need 120 for a decent size top.  well begun is half done, so back at the machine today after a couple of days with appointments.  medical stuff done for the month!

very foggy and (again) dreary day but signs of spring everywhere so pretty soon better days.  laundry on tap and a bit of cooking, then some exercise will fill the day.  glass is more than half full with blessings all around.  hoping you feel the same!

  1. A suggestion -- make miscellaneous nine-patches out of the 2" strips, with 9 different prints in each. (I'm sure that orange/green print came from me!)

  2. I do feel like my life is filled with blessings. So much to be grateful for. Dreary day outside but we keep getting snow in the mountains which means we'll have plenty to water our garden this summer. Cute friendship star quilt with angels.

  3. Really nice scrap blocks. Great way to plow through some stash and create something lovely in the process!

  4. Yes, half full is a glass of hope and promise. I, too, am raiding the stash bins for my leader-ender blocks that will be revealed soon. Sew much fun!! Your projects always intrigue me- my "beguns" aren't nearly "half" done at all; but they keep me out of trouble (and relatively sane)! Ha!!

  6. You're like a machine. You get so much done. I'm sure you will find a use for those rejected strips.

  8. Great job with the scrap basket. I love this block. They look so nice all together. I have to spend more time hand quilting or else, I'll never finish my quilt. You have a cute little one in the hoop. Enjoy! ;^)
