introducing Sunny!

finally settled in her new home, Sunny, the swingin' 60s vintage Singer (she NEVER inhaled...lol), is ready for her closeup!  I remember the day my mother bought this machine.  It's one of those workhorse machines, weighs a ton, few moving parts, that will keep going as long as parts are available.

she took to Aurifil thread right away....was used often in the past but not so much lately.  that is about to change and she is definitely out of semi-retirement.  lots of memories of home ec projects, clothing, curtains, mending....oh yeah she's got a history!

and another starburst is done and on the wall....

yep the toile has definitely got to go.  it's a fabric i love but just not right.  too much white i think...

it's spring here all week, daffs are peeking out of the ground.  trying for a gym day today and get back in my routine.  vacation planning in full swing....now on the hunt for some kind of diversion to shake off the midwinter ho-hums....

  1. I've been trying to recall what model that Singer machine is. She's a beauty! I love sewing on the old Singers, my go-to piecing machine is a 1951 Singer 201a.

  2. This machine is a treasure; Sunny is a real beauty. Which model? I was lucky enough to inherit my MIL's Singer 301, I named her Ruth, she's a gem. You really can't beat these old workhorse machines! I just love your Starbursts!

  4. I love having my backup Singers.. A Touch and Sew I bought the year we married. 1964. Still is a work horse. The Starbursts might pop with a less white background. It will be a beauty when completed. My feather weight needs to get some workouts. She has had too long a rest. I see a baby quilt on the horizon. It must be me but my Featherweight is not light as a feather these days!

  5. I love that there is a sticker on Sunny! When my girls were little they put stickers on my machine and on my mothers. I still have both machines, and they still have the stickers. :)
You are turning out those starbursts pretty quickly!

  6. What a treasure. You will have great fun getting back into the swing of using her. So nice that there isn’t plastic or electronics. I’m sure you will find the perfect background fabric for your blocks.

  10. How lovely that you have Sunny installed and sewing up a storm for you. Your Sunburst blocks look great - I hope you don't have too much trouble finding another fabric to use with them.
