last weekend looked up jen kingwell's new book "quilt recipes" and was hit with immediate sticker shock....on amazon it's $49.50!!!! yes that's right. it has the 'wensleydale' pattern that had attracted my quilty muse.
it's a lovely book of course but at that price, totally out of my budget....there are templates with no instruction, but they are $31.50....again, beyond my budget. everything is more expensive these days and more so down under australia i guess. but for one pattern and maybe one recipe, just not practical for me. will stick with the more frugal substitute and sort of similar UFO project by jo morton, an equally proficient designer in my mind.
aptly titled economy blocks done in delicious repro fabrics...gives me the same cozy traditional feel as the joseph's coat quilt and equally satisfying as 'wensleydale'....course if joe sends along another stimulus check might reconsider...
splash of color moves forward...i tweaked a few of the blocks whose value seemed incongruous with the overall effect...22 of the total 64 blocks are done....
regular exercise is doing wonders for the hip. walking normally until it gets tired when hobbling returns, but i do now believe eventually all will be well. it was booster shot monday and can now say i've had all my shots....LOL...

Books (and Everything else) are out of my reach these days too. If I want any new fabric I have to say no to any new books. So sad! Glad to hear the hip is recovering nicely. Sew on my friend!
ReplyDeleteI think the Jo Morton quilt will be lovely! You might try your local library for quilt books or cook books-I've found some really good things and you can copy out the one thing you want. Stay healthy and stitch on!
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating to have to pass on the book you want. My husband always says “be patient” as you just might find one used sometime. I once found a CD that was going for $$$ on eBay, in the bargain bin of our local record store. Connecting Threads has good discounts on books, so keep your eyes peeled there. But what’s not to love about the Jo Morton pattern you picked? You will make a beautiful quilt in the meantime!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sandy--check Alibris or Half Price Books in a few months. That's what I do for many quilt books.
ReplyDeleteMy go-to for books is Amazon and I've had great luck ordering the cheapest one available in the "used" category. Though since this book hasn't yet been released it will be a long time before it fits my book budget which is generally under $5 plus shipping. When I see a photo of a quilt that I like, I try to redraft a similar version. That's what our quilting foremothers did, before the day of expensive books and digital patterns. The Jo Morton quilt is lovely warm and cozy appearing.
ReplyDeleteYikes that's pricey for something without instructions or templates
ReplyDeleteoh the book has instructions but not the templates themselves...
DeleteThat is a pricey book, for sure. The Jo Morton book you have chosen as an alternative is a great replacement.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good project to use up your turquoise thread. :)
