snow sewing

 i saw this on facebook...LOL

i've lived in MD for 10 years and never seen as much snow as we got over the weekend...no real marathon sewing for me as i've lots of free time to sew even without storms, so just more of the same really.

did some quilting on my double wedding ring quilt, hoping to finish february...i zoomed some with my quilty peeps down under (and elsewhere), doing some applique on the vintage melon squares.  applique half done on this project...these are twosies for now....

finished my chair (finally!).  done but definitely not perfect...back to upholstery school for me i guess....basting day planned for this week.

was given another bag of drumsticks, so made small chicken pie and baked/froze the rest for future.  did make a batch of cinnamon rolls.  with another week of frigid temps--single digits every night--have pretty much slipped into hermit mode.  thankfully stocked up on library books.

despite boredom so very thankful for warm, comfortable shelter, a real blessing.  so many in my complex gripe about every little inconsequential thing, one reason i avoid them.  though not my dream home, it is more than adequate for me.  counting my blessings every day...hope you do too!

  1. Sounds like you are looking on the bright side and making the best of what you have. Chicken pies sound good. I don't envy the snow, but right now I would willingly swap for some of our rain.. Keep busy and warm.

  2. So glad you've got plenty to keep you busy and not bored. Love the melon shapes on the blue-green fabric. It is going to be a beauty.

  3. Barbara Bennett here: the last years have been easy winters.

You should have been here the year we had 3 feet of snow from 3 back to back storms. The first thing I had to do when I woke up on my birthday was shovel 2 ft of snow away from my heat pump. I literally started crying when it started to snow again before I finished shoveling out my car after the plow came thru after several days of being snowed in. A couple of neighbors came over to help after they finished theirs, then the 3 of us cleaned up and went to the grocery store, along with everyone else in town. Checkout lines went all the way to the back of the store. By the time we got back home, there were several inches on the roads. I was off work for a week.

  6. Counting blessings always! I LOVE your chair; it's sew pretty! A stocked pantry, something to stitch and something to read... sounds like Heaven to me.

  10. That forecast is fun.
Sounds like you have all you need to be busy and fed (cinnamon rolls--yum!!).
The melons are coming along very well. And I admire your work on the chair. I know nothing about upholstery, and think I would have given up in tears along the way, had I attempted it.
You have a great perspective on things, Grace. So many times when I find myself grumbling, I have to remind myself "first world problems".
Sorry I missed the Australia Day zoom. Was wiped out from a last minute 5 day trip to help daughter #1 and her family move.

  11. I really like that vintage green you are using for the orange peel blocks. It's very timely. Check out Barbara Brackman's Material Culture blog post for today, Feb. 3
